1.When and how did you get started in derby?
In 2014. I was already skating with Rec.Attack (the BEST club for recreational skating) for a couple of years, and I wanted to skate more often than only once a week. Despite being terribly afraid of the physical aggressiveness that comes with roller derby, I gave it a shot. My original plan was to try and complete fresh meat, and then avoid all the aggressiveness by becoming a referee. However, the rules turned out to be really complicated, and refs do get hit by accident sometimes! So I chose to play roller derby after all.

2. What’s been your favourite derby moment?
I remember a couple of bouts played by our travel team at SKOD 2015, and especially the final! Every single game they played during that tournament was an absolute nail-biter, with a score difference of only one or two points. And the crowd went wild each time, so great!

3. Who are your derby heroes?
My league mates! From the most gifted skaters to the clumsy ones like me, who have to work hard for even the tiniest bit of progress. They are all awesome, and I am glad to be on their team!

4. How did you pick your derby name?
I don’t have a derby name, and I don’t mind skating under my given name.

5. What’s your worst injury?
Sprained knee ligaments after falling rather unorthodoxly with my legs wide open. I was out for six months.

6. What advice would you give to someone who would like to play derby?
Enjoy yourself! And practice, practice, practice.

7. If I wasn’t playing derby, I’d be…
Playing volleyball, or softball, or handball. Anything with a ball really 😉

8. One word to describe GO-GO Gent:
AWESOMENESS!!
