#303 Bruise Lee

1. When and how did you get started in derby?
I started in may 2015. I started skating recreational with a friend (Rec Attack) a few months before doing the intake. Took me one training to get hooked!

2. What’s been your favourite derby moment?
So many to choose from! I love the feeling of being with a bunch of friends, win or lose, after every game. We work so hard at every practice, and love to play together. I can honestly say I met some really awesome people here! <3

3. Who are your derby heroes?
I’m not very big on names, but I love seeing how our own people grow, how other teams grow, and how welcoming the entire community is.

4. How did you pick your derby name?
I used to be full of nasty bruised, every practise, every game,… It’s a lot better now, but the name ‘Bruise Lee’ stuck.

5. What’s your worst injury?
In a game not long ago, the jammer of the opposite team attempted an apex jump, but landed – knee first – full on my back, which led to a really bad back musle contusion. I couldn’t tie my own shoe laces without breaking out in tears, sooo painfull.
But: what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. I was back on track about a month later 🙂

6. What advice would you give to someone who would like to play derby?
Do it! It’s awesome. I was hooked from the first time I was on quad skates.
You will want to play games immediately, but have some patience. You’ll need to learn a lot of skills first, so that you’ll be ready to play safely. No worries, you’ll improve fast!

7. If I wasn’t playing derby, I’d be…
That’s a difficult one. I can’t imagine my live without derby anymore. Without it I’d be having a lot more free time, but a lot less friends/fun/thing to look forward to/…

8. One word to describe GO-GO Gent:
Dedication and teamspirit!
